Use Views to Generate Diagrams
Easy to switch between different views to visualize your cloud architecture the way you want it
Understanding Views
A View is a foundation for generating diagrams in Cloudviz.io. It represents a set of visualization settings that are applied when creating a new diagram. Whenever user generates a diagram, it is created based on specific view.
Currently, we have several default views defined, such as:
- Full Account View – Provides a visualization of all AWS resources (that are currently supported by Cloudviz.io), offering a complete overview of infrastructure components.
- Security View – Focuses on security-related resources such as Security Groups and Network ACLs.
- VPC View – Displays all resources related to your Virtual Private Clouds (VPC), helping users analyze network architecture and dependencies.
- Serverless View – Highlights serverless components, including AWS Lambda functions, API Gateway endpoints, DynamoDB tables, WAF, S3 buckets and other fully managed cloud services.
- VPC View with ENI and EBS Volumes – Expands the standard VPC View by including Elastic Network Interfaces (ENIs) and Elastic Block Store (EBS) volumes, providing deeper insights into networking and storage resources.
By default Cloudviz.io uses a Full Account View. For example, when starting to use our app and generating the first diagram, the Full Account View is used.
Switching Between Views
Switching between views is easy. Simply select the desired view from the dropdown list and diagram will be re-generated based on the selected view.
Linking Views to Diagrams
Once the diagram is saved, the relation to view used to generate it is stored with the diagram. When the user reopens the diagram, you can see what view was used to generate it.
Users can easily refresh their diagrams by clicking Sync Account while maintaining consistency with the original visualization settings.
Create Custom View
Different cloud architectures often require unique visualization approaches. In addition to our default views, you can easily set your own diagram visualization settings and save them as custom views for later use.
You have complete control over what is included in your generated diagrams. Begin by selecting which resources or resource groups should be visualized. Then, adjust a range of settings for each resource:
- Element Settings: Customize default width/height, fill and border colors, name length and color, and various placement properties in the diagram.
- Connection Settings: For example, for an Elastic Load Balancer, decide whether to show connection lines with target EC2 instances. You can also configure the line style, color, width, and add start or end arrows.
These are just a few of the many options available when creating your custom Views.
Future Enhancements
We continually improve our visualization settings and actively listen to user feedback. If you notice a feature that could enhance diagram generation flexibility, please feel free to drop us a message.
